Nicolas Antoine-Moussiaux obtained his degree in veterinary medicine in 2004 and a PhD in veterinary sciences in 2010, both at the University of Liege, in Belgium. After an advanced master in Rural economics and sociology (Gembloux Agro-bio Tech, and Catholic University of Louvain), he has been collaborating since 2012 with CIRAD (Montpellier, France) about the integrated management of health risk, a.o. about the surveillance of avian influenza in South-East Asia. In parallel to this research focused on health, he developed a research thread and teaching activities on socio-economics of animal health and production in the Global South. He leads or contributes to several cooperation projects in Central and West Africa, Latin America and South-East Asia, and also conducted consultancy work for FAO.
His research interests more particularly cover the use of participatory approaches in the analysis of decision- making of stakeholders, targeting animal disease surveillance and control, animal genetic resources management and multi-stakeholder innovation processes. His works fit into an interdisciplinary perspective to support public and private decision-making for the integrated management of health risks.
Over the last ten years, he has developed a strong commitment to interdisciplinary research and action, along with epidemiologists, medical doctors, environmental scientists, and socio-anthropologists, under the One Health and EcoHealth concepts. Being the coordinator of an Advanced Master in Integrated Management of Health Risks in the Global South (University of Liege, Free University of Brussels, University of Namur), in collaboration with international partners (FAO, CSRS / Afrique One-Aspire), he is particularly committed to the practical translation for action of these widely used concepts. Therefore he presents a particular interest in the conceptual and methodological foundations of integrated approaches of health and their translation into action and teaching.
