Dr. Behara Satyanarayana is currently working as Associate Professor at the Institute of Oceanography and Environment (INOS), Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT, Malaysia) (since 2013). He started his career as a mangrove biologist in India (Andhra University, 1995-2002) and expanded the scope of his research works in Asia (Sri Lanka, China, Malaysia) and Africa (Cameroon, The Gambia, Senegal) through both institutional and personal networking. His research interests include mangrove ecology, vegetation dynamics, habitat restoration, conservation and management, along with the application of remote sensing data. Besides the potential scientific collaborator attachment with the University Libre Brussels (Belgium) (since 2010), Dr. Satyanarayana is also managing the Erasmus Mundus excellence labelled ‘Tropical Biodiversity and Ecosystems’ (TROPIMUNDO) Master programme as Local Coordinator for Malaysia (since 2014). He is a member of the IUCN Mangrove Specialist Group (MSG) (since 2019), the Royal Academy for Overseas Sciences for Natural and Medical Sciences (since 2021), and the Global Mangrove Alliance – Malaysia Chapter (since 2024). He is engaged in mangrove flora and faunal studies with his counterparts in Malaysia as well as abroad. The academic accomplishments of Dr. Satyanarayana were recognized through numerous national and international scientific awards/recognitions, research grants, and over 100 peer-reviewed publications.
