Stanny Geerts (°Zottegem, 1949) is professor emeritus of the Institute of Tropical Medicine, Antwerp. He worked at the veterinary department from 1975 until his retirement and was involved in research on tropical veterinary parasitology with a focus on taeniasis-cysticercosis and animal trypanosomiasis. He has been promoter and scientific coordinator of several research projects in Africa and South America. He was chairman of the Executive Board of the International Trypanotolerance Centre, Banjul, the Gambia (2002-2008) and member of the management committee of the FAO Programme against African Trypanosomiasis (PAAT) (1996-2009). He is the author or co-author of more than 200 scientific publications and of 6 books.
