Jan Bogaert (Beveren, Belgium, 1970) is currently Full Professor at Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech (University of Liège, Belgium). He obtained master degrees in Biology at the Uni-versity of Antwerp (1992) and in Bioscience Engineering at the University of Ghent (1996). In 2000, he obtained his Ph.D. in Biology at the University of Antwerp. In 2001, he was a visiting scholar at the Geography Department of Boston University (MA, USA). In 2003, he was appointed for the Chair of Landscape Ecology at the Free University of Brussels (ULB). In 2011, he moved to Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech to join the Biodiversity and Landscape research unit. Research and teaching activities of Jan Bogaert mainly concern landscape ecology, urban ecology, landscape architecture and quantitative landscape analysis; recent research initiatives are oriented towards anthropogenic effects in landscapes and peri-urban landscape dynamics. Jan Bogaert promoted over 40 Ph.D. dissertations and participated in university development projects in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ivory Coast, Burundi, Benin, Haiti, Ecuador, Madagascar, Senegal, Ethiopia and Niger.
